What capacity AC is required for room?

When we talk about the right capacity or tonnage of the AC required for a room, there is no fixed number. Area method and volume method are the commonly used simple ideas to calculate the required AC tonnage since a long time.

Mitsubishi Electric India is one of the leading air conditioner brands in the country which offers an online tonnage calculator that is extremely easy-to-use. With a few simple steps of adding the required figures on the online tonnage calculator, one can easily figure out the approximate AC tonnage considering the size and weather of the room. This in turn, saves energy and ultimately leads to cost reductions. Nevertheless, for a precise calculation of capacity, Heat load calculation method is an effective method but technically complex and requires subject matter expertise.

Can air conditioning control humidity?

If you ventilate an air-conditioned room with fresh air from the outside during a hot summer day, the humidity and temperature of the room will increase. At this point, to keep the room cool, the air conditioner will have to work at a more powerful setting to control its humidity and temperature. The air conditioner meant for human comfort cooling is having a limitation in controlling the Humidity (up to 55%).

For fresh air applications, Mitsubishi Electric’s Lossnay ventilation system uses a heat exchange technology to refresh the air within the room, it helps to maintain appropriate humidity and temperature for people to stay comfortable. Lossnay Ventilation System specifically utilizes direct fresh air after proper filtration to avoid the entry of dirt and dust particles as well.

However, if the air conditioner’s application is a critical application of Data center/Server room, then installation of precision air conditioning equipment with a built in humidifier is an effective solution to control humidity more precisely.

Which AC is better for small room?

Size of a room or office is the most important factor to be considered when we talk about choosing an AC model. If we talk about a small room, there is no specific model or tonnage to be mentioned in particular. All that needs to be kept in mind while purchasing an AC unit, is that the capacity of AC neither should be small nor large as problems can occur in both cases. If the capacity of AC unit is small compared to the size of the room, it might struggle to achieve the intended level of air conditioning. On the other hand, if the air conditioner is too large as compared to the size of the room, then it would cool the room too quickly without removing the humidity from the air, which will leave the people present in the room too cold and clammy. Therefore, whether it be a small room or a large one, it is essential to keep the size of the room in mind while choosing the air conditioner to avoid any problems further.

How often should I have my air conditioning serviced?

It is mostly recommended to get your Air conditioners serviced within regular intervals to get optimal performance. It is advisable by most of the professionals that the service of the Air Conditioners should be done once a year or maybe twice a year.

If the AC unit tends to face some issue due to continuous exposure of dust, more foot falls, then to be on a safe side, it is advisable to get it examined every three months by the professionals.

Which air conditioner is best for room?

There are a lot of factors which makes an air conditioner to be the best to be placed in the rooms. When you wish to choose the best air conditioner for a room, make sure that the AC unit gives proper cooling and helps to ensure that there is no excess energy consumption so as to avoid excessive electricity costs and to keep your house energy efficient.

Check if it helps in improving the quality of air, the AC’s reliability and durability are equally imperative. Look for an appropriate capacity as per the size of the room, choose the model as per the climate and weather conditions of the particular region. Most importantly use the advanced methods to calculate the perfect tonnage required for the room. Type of the indoor unit needs to be decided based on room orientation and end user’s seating arrangement. Generally, Split type air conditioners are used for individual cabins, 4-Way cassette units are used for local cooling effect in open work station areas, Ceiling concealed duct units are used for large areas of open work stations, and conference rooms wherein uniform distribution of cool air is required with less noise levels. Floor standing indoor units are used for lounge, and private lobby areas. For fresh air intake, Treated Fresh Air units are preferred. Ensuring the above pointers will definitely help a person choose the best air conditioner as per different room requirements.

Which type of air conditioner is installed into the ceiling?

Ceiling-cassette HVAC units are installed into the ceiling. These are centralised units which distribute conditioned air through One, two, three or four sides of the unit and best suitable for localised cooling effect. The outdoor unit of a cassette air conditioner is mounted outside, they are quicker and easier to install than conventional central systems, offer a wide range of indoor unit styles to meet the requirements of any space.

Unpleasant odour from Air conditioner?

It is important to note that the Air conditioner does not produce unpleasant smell on its own. But, air conditioner can spread foul smell into the room area depending on the installation conditions and human induced activities.

There are a plenty of reasons for the cause of unpleasant odour from an Air Conditioner which are mentioned below:

Dirty socks smell

If a foul, mouldy smell is observed once an air conditioner is switched on, there may be a problem with the drain duct not seeping out condensate water due to clogging. As the water not drained out, It will accumulate in the drainpipe and become a breeding ground for all kinds of fungi, bacteria, mould and other germs which creates the unpleasant smell which comes out whenever we switch on the AC system, in such a case, it is mandatory to get the AC unit cleaned on timely basis.

This kind of Dirty socks smell can also occur when the air conditioner was switched on after a long layoff period. This is because of deep seated fungal growth on cooling coil as the microbial reactions are accelerated during damp conditions of condensate water.

Old cigarettes

When someone smokes inside the house, the fumes of Nicotine/Tobacco can get mixed with the cool air supplied from air conditioner, thereby cause unpleasant smell inside room. The fine residue of Nicotine/ Tobacco can penetrate deeply into the fins of cooling coil. Once they settle down, it cannot be got rid of with routine servicing. Placement of Vinegar in bowls and allowing fresh air ventilation can provide some relief.

Burning smell

Whenever a burning smell is observed after turning on the AC, there may be a problem with the compressor. There is an immediate need to of calling a technician to get the AC unit fixed.

Rotten egg smell

Rotten egg smell can be due to a dead animal or insect inside the AC unit. Insects, rats, and even birds often get inside the dark chambers of air conditioners and once they start decomposing, they cause rotten egg smell inside the room. This can also be due to the gas leak.

Sewage/Excrement smell

Methane gas from building sewage line entering through AC drain pipe can further spread into room area. The Corrosive Sulphur smell from sewage pipes can also get inside room area through AC drain piping.

House odours

Cooking smells from Kitchen can mix up with supply air of Air conditioner and can stay for very long periods. In case of drain piping of Air conditioner is connected with piping also carrying out the Kitchen waste, the air can get contaminated and drawn back into room area through suction effect of blower fan.

VOC smells

The Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) present in Painting and Varnish layers can potentially create distinct strong smell inside room area for very long period. This kind of VOC smell can go down gradually by keep opening of doors and windows with proper ventilation and fresh air.

Why do air conditioners leak water?

The leaking of Air Conditioners can be due to many reasons which are mentioned below:

  • Inadequate Drainpipe slope: If the drain piping of air conditioner does not have adequate slope gradient of 1/100 cm, then in such case water can travel back and fall down inside conditioning area.
  • Gaps in Drainpipe joints: The strength of Drainpipe joints which are joined by adhesive will gradually diminish over passage of time and there by create gaps at joints. Water can seep out from these joints and can spoil the surrounding premises.
  • Short cycling of cool supply air: The water leakage can also occur in case of any obstruction presented in the path of cool supply air. If a decorative louver boxing was installed ahead of cool supply air path of Wall mounted hiwall unit, the condensation phenomena can create dew water droplets and they may fall on wall, floor and carpet surfaces thereby spoil the aesthetics. Similarly, in case of Ceiling concealed air conditioner, if there is a gap left out between duct collar and grill during installation stage, then the cool air can get short cycled and Dew water droplets created can spoil the false ceiling or nearby decorative wood section.
  • Dirty air filters: Air filters are easy to get dirty. Dirty air filters can block the airflow and make it hard for the air to hit the evaporator coil. The coils will turn cold until it freezes. One day they will melt, producing excess water that is too much to hold. This process generates leakages from the AC.
  • Leaking refrigerant: If the leaks are followed by blowing of warmer air than the usual, it is maybe the refrigerant. Refrigerant works to turn the warm air of the room into cool air. In this case it is important to immediately switch off the device and connect with a professional team to get the problem fixed as a default in refrigerant can be injurious to health.
  • Piled up mould and fungus: One of the most common causes of leakage is clogged drainage. The culprit can be dirt, dust, and fungus that block the water to flow. The water will try to find the other way out, causing the AC to leak which might cause breathing issues if ignored.
  • Old pipes: Through the years, the coat of an AC pipe can get broken. This may cause leakage. A new pipe cover can be a solution in this case, connect with a technician as soon as possible for the same for an appropriate advice.
  • Incorrect installation: In case a new device starts to cause leakage, then there is an urgent need to get it checked that the AC unit is not unevenly installed. Contacting the professional team for improved installation is the only solution in this case.

What does cool mode mean on an air conditioner?

Cool mode is the default or standard mode on which an air conditioner operates, with a set temperature point and fan speed selection by end user. In cool mode, the indoor air conditioner draws in hot air of room and runs it through the cooling coil by which the temperature of hot air is passed into cool liquid refrigerant flowing inside cooling coil. Thus, the heat of room air is passed into refrigerant and via compressor the heat will get released at condenser coil for passing into ambient air. As this process is repetitive in closed loop, thus, in cooling mode, the temperature of room air is gradually goes down to create cooling effect.

Which gas is used in air conditioner?

In the earlier times, Freon was the gas that was used for the Air conditioners. But with the rapid advancements, Environment friendly HFC refrigerants like R32 and R410 refrigerants (gas at room temperatures) started to be used frequently which increased the efficiency of the AC units and made them cost efficient.

Does an air conditioner use less electricity on low mode?

No, if we talk about the temperature variations, low mode means more cooling and in turn leads to long running of compressor. As lower the set temperature will be, the AC compressor will work longer, which means more power consumption and higher cooling.

Does inverter AC consume less electricity?

The inverter technology in an Air Conditioner is something that selectively changes the compressor motor speed according to home temperature demands. This variable compression speed means a smoother, more streamlined, and sustained approach to temperature delivery.

Yes, an inverter air conditioner consumes less energy when compared to the non-inverter AC as this advanced technology can regulate the speed of its compressor motor based on heat load variations inside room area. Once the room is cooled, the inverter air conditioner lowers the speed of the compressor motor up to an extent that it will only maintain the achieved cooling effect precisely between 1-2 Deg C variation. As the motor’s work is minimal during such maintenance of achieved temperature, the Inverter air conditioner consumes less power and thereby saves the energy. In comparison, the non-inverter air conditioner only runs at full speed or stop. In this method, there were two problems. One, there will be a wastage of cooling effect and as well as power. Secondly, the process of frequent start and stop of compressor motor consumes more power due to motor draws more starting current at every start. Inverter ACs have soft start with very low rush current. While the air conditioner is operational, machines draw regular current instead of sudden high rush current, which make Inverter ACs more efficient than conventional Air Conditioners.

What is Industrial Automation?

Industrial automation uses control systems and equipment, such as computer software and robots to perform tasks that were historically conducted manually. These systems operate industrial equipment automatically, significantly reducing the level of operator involvement and oversight required. Automation systems typically consist of feedback loops and sensory programs that automatically adjust operating conditions to meet the desired values based on real-time data. The technologies used in industrial automation have advanced significantly in recent years due to digitalization of manufacturing, especially with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) – opening up more and more opportunities for companies to take advantage of automation solutions.

What are the main reasons to consider automation?

Industrial automation allows faster production with less errors and increased product flexibility. Systems with advanced complexity, multiple changeovers or a variety of repetitive tasks can often benefit from automation. Automation also allows to gather critical operating data faster and more efficiently and guaranteed optimized operation with the best information available at all times. Ultimately, automation is becoming industry standard and will keep you up to date with competitors who are relying on automated processes for total control of the plant floor.

Are automated systems always better/faster?

No, Simple systems that don’t require many repetitive tasks are often over engineered by automation. The goal when you automate a process is to achieve a higher efficiency and faster production, but if you’re automating the wrong systems or if you don’t have the proper bandwidth to handle the new technology, it can backfire. It’s important to consider a few things when determining how and when to go about automating your plant, namely:

  • Why do I want to automate? (Less employees, more efficiency, reduce errors, faster production, multiple changeovers, better information to improve process, modernization?)
  • What system would be the most effective as an automated system? These are typically the systems that are repetitive and that don’t involve any creativity or the “human touch” to execute.
  • What teams do I have in place to make this automation project a success?
  • How will my existing teams and systems integrate with this new automation?

A good automation engineer will only provide the automation you need.

What are some different plant applications of industrial automation?

There are many opportunities to upgrade plants to use industrial automation. Technology allows to automate your systems whether you are working with a factory line up or a complex process system. Often, outdated systems can be upgraded for better efficiency and hardware that is supported.

Will automating my processes make my employees obsolete?

Some automation systems do serve the purpose of taking over repetitive tasks that can be completed faster and more efficiently by machines. However, as a general rule, automation does not make your current employees obsolete. Most plants today run with a combination of automated and non-automated systems that are integrated together and run by a managing team of employees. Your employees will work with and manage the new system, and ideally, it will make the work easier and more efficient for your entire existing team without completely alleviating the need for humans.

How does industrial automation differ from traditional equipment manufacturing?

The algorithms that run industrial automation systems give them a “logic” that allows them to work smarter and faster than traditional equipment manufacturing machines. In a way, it is like the difference between a calculator and a keyboard: a keyboard can just punch out the numbers while a calculator can come up with solutions. The highly complex programming software used in industrial automation makes plant systems run using the smartest, most efficient solutions to each problem that arises.

What are common features of an industrial automation systems?

Some beneficial features of a typical industrial automation system are remote operational control, real time communications, multiple integrated controllers, and a fluid integration of the plant networks across the plant’s operational platform.

What will automating my plant processes cost?
