Mitsubishi Electric Elevators: Creating New Safety Benchmarks in India’s Elevator Industry

The growing influx of highrise buildings in India has created the necessity to incorporate vertical mobility into the building infrastructure as they help make vertical mobility quick, easy and convenient.

However, this increasing requirement of elevators brings along certain safety concerns. While there is absolutely no doubt that regular service and maintenance, testing and monitoring of elevators can ensure their efficiency and passenger safety, these are not the only driving factors. There are other aspects of the design and technology that are utilized to build elevators with superior safety features.

Here’s How We Ensure Elevator Safety

Mitsubishi Electric Elevators has integrated unique safety features to prevent any mishappening and beforehand. These include: -

Door Safety Features

  • 3D Multi-Beam Door Sensor: The sensor utilizes multiple infrared light beams to prevent the passengers and their belongings from being caught between the doors.
  • Door Load Detector (DLD): A safety device to detect excessive load on opening or closing doors.
  • Door Sensor Self-Diagnosis: The sensor diagnoses any failure in the non-contact car door safety devices like the Safety Ray sensors or the Multi-Beam Door Sensors.
  • Emergency Operations: Operation by Mitsubishi Emergency Landing Device (MELD) and Operation by Emergency Power Source (OEPS) are the two types available in MEI elevators.
  • Fire Emergency Return Operation: The fire emergency operations are immediately activated when the fire alarm system alerts. With this, all the cars reach the evacuation floor to ensure the safe evacuation of the passengers.
  • Primary and Secondary Wave Earthquake Emergency Return Operations (EER-P): It enables all cars to automatically travel to the nearest floors and open the doors for evacuation whenever the earthquake alarm alerts.
  • Ultrasonic Door Sensor (USDS): The sensors prevent passengers from getting caught between the doors.

Security Functions

  • Inter Communication System: This allows the passenger inside the car to communicate with security personnel outside.
  • Secret Call Service: The elevator car calls for some floors require secret codes that enhance security by limiting access to certain floors.
  • ITV Camera in Car: This camera is installed inside the car and transmits images to the security room. This enables visual communication, thereby enhancing safety.
